Pupil Premium

“The Pupil Premium Grant should be used to ensure disadvantaged pupils receive consistently excellent teaching

Marc Rowland, Deputy Director of the Education Trust

The government gives money to schools to help children from lower income families to do their very best at school. This funding is called pupil premium and needs to be applied for.

The Pupil Premium Grant is funding provided to schools which is additional to main school funding. It is allocated according to the number of pupil’s on-roll who have been eligible for free school meals (FSM) within the last 6 years. Pupil Premium payments are also allocated to children of service families and pupils who are ‘Looked After’ (in care) or adopted.

This money could enable us to fund additional resources. For example, extra one to one tuition, new equipment and materials for pupils or provide extra classroom support It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.

Schools are to be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support pupils from low-income families.

Please read our Pupil Premium Grant Action Plan for information regarding how we use pupil premium funding.  In addition to this we produce an Annual Report detailing the impact of the funding.  Our Governing body and our Pupil Premium Governor, Christopher Prior works with the school to ensure that this grant is utilised to best meet the needs of our Pupil Premium children.

At Calmore Infant School we have focused the use of Pupil Premium funding to diminish attainment differences and ensure that all of our children make the best possible progress with their learning.
